For Four Consecutive Years, Department of Business Management, NSYSU Remains on UK Financial Times MiM Ranking

On October 28, 2019, the Financial Times published the 2019 FT Masters in Management Ranking (MiM). The Department of Business Management, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) entered the table for the fourth year in a row, ranked 98th and moving two places up the ranking from last year.

The Financial Times MiM Ranking evaluates the participating business schools and their alumni from 2016 class based on three major aspects, including alumni career progress, school diversity and international experience & research. Some keys to the ranking include “salary percentage increase”, “aims achieved”, “women/ international faculty (%)”, as well as “international mobility rank”.

With regards to alumni career performance, the Department of Business Management, NSYSU, calculated the “weighted salary”, which is average graduate’s salary with adjustment for salary variations between industry sectors, to be US$45,368, reflecting an average increase of nearly US$6,000 over the past three years. After three years of graduation, the salary is increased by 43% compared to their first salary after graduation. It has been observed that the performance of the alumni of the Department of Business Management has grown year after year. In terms of school diversity, the women/ international faculty, the international board, and the international students have all increased by 2 to 6 % over the past three years. The first three criteria have even reached a record high in the recent three years.

In addition, with regards to the “international course experience ” criterion, which is calculated according to whether the most recent graduating class undertook exchanges, company internships or study trips in countries other than where school is based, the Department of BM, NSYSU ranks among the top 50 in the world this year. Department of BM Director Chun-Tuan Chang pointed out that the Department has always placed great emphasis on the cultivation of its students’ international outlook and vision. Besides offering many courses in English, Chinese courses such as “International Business Practices” also inspire students through videos, international expansion projects, role-playing and case studies. Students are shaped to become future business leaders through teaming up faculty and students domestically and abroad. The Department of Business Management has been featured quite significantly in the 2019 MiM ranking, demonstrating the results of its hard work in encouraging students to study overseas to expand their horizon.

The top three schools in the ranking are the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, HEC Paris, and London Business School in the UK. A total of 7 schools entered the table for the first time, including Vlerick Business School in Belgium, European School of Management and Technology in Germany, Indian Institute of Management Udaipur and Indore, Trinity College Dublin, Trinity Business School, Ireland, HKUST Business School in China, and National Chengchi University in Taiwan.
