◎ 【New Faculty Interview】Professor Konstantin Weicht

Professor Konstantin Weicht, who joined NSYSU in August 2018, is from the City of Music, Vienna, in Austria. Professor Weicht has both academic and professional credentials. As an Electrical Engineer by profession, he pursued his academic studies in England, with a Master of Research from the School of Construction & Property Management at the University of Salford and a PhD in Organization and Management from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. This is coupled with professional experience in the service industry and health care sector, both in Austria and the UK.

A personal decision to move to Taiwan in 2014 (Taiwanese wife, two children) has broadened his perspectives further, whether this be through living in and learning about a new culture, conducting cross-cultural research, gaining first experiences in academia in Taiwan, or starting and running his own business (a wood fire stone-oven bakery and pizza place that ranked #1 on tripadvisor).

A proponent of the Humboldtian education ideal, Professor Weicht believes that his role in the education system is to facilitate the development of “autonomous individuals” and “citizens of the world” (Weltbuerger). Students at NSYSU should leave with more than a degree – they should be “good people” who can then become “good businessmen and women or managers”.

Professor Weicht currently teaches Organization Theory & Management, Organizational Behavior, and Research Methodology. Apart from his teaching, he hopes to advance his academic career as an international management scholar. Besides his work commitment, he enjoys the outdoors, sports, classical music, and spending time with his family.
