Prof. David McConville |
1. Please introduce yourself first.
My name is David McConville and I am from England in the United Kingdom. In August I joined the Global Human Resource Management (GHRM) MBA Program at the College of Management as an Assistant Professor. Before joining the GHRM team, I was working in the UK as a Senior Lecturer. Prior to that, I completed a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology at Loughborough University (UK).
I have been visiting Taiwan regularly since 2012, travelling around Taiwan, working with researchers in other universities and delivering guest lectures. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to move to Taiwan permanently, and to work at National Sun Yat-sen University. Over the past few years, I have really enjoyed travelling around the island and learning about Taiwanese culture – there is so much more I would like to visit when I have time! I enjoy travelling to new places and learning about different people. In my spare time I enjoy watching football (I am a supporter of Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur!), playing chess (the Western version), running (10km runs), reading (I like reading about neuroscience, philosophy and psychology when I have a chance) and relaxing by the sea. It is very difficult to decide what my favorite food in Taiwan is, but I would probably say the ‘sausage in a sausage’. After a long day working, what could be better than a ‘sausage in a sausage’ (with a little garlic) and a cup of Sun Moon Lake Black Tea (with milk)?
我是David McConville(莫西大衛),來自英國。
2. Why you came (chose) Taiwan for your next step? How do you like here (e.g., life style, culture, campus) and which is your favorite part?(老師為何選擇來台灣?
Many people have asked me why I came to Taiwan. There are many reasons. I like Taiwan very much, the people are extremely friendly and helpful, the food is extraordinarily good, and there is so much to see and do! I admire many of the qualities of Taiwanese people. I think the Taiwanese people are very hospitable and extremely kind to visitors. When faced with a challenge, I like the positive “can do” attitude here, and the motivation that people have to succeed. NSYSU is also fantastic place to study, to teach and conduct research – there are many world class researchers here. This is an excellent environment where people from all over the world are able to learn, develop their minds, flourish and achieve their potential. I am very pleased to be a part of this culture, and I hope to make a positive contribution to what is being achieved here.
3. What is your main research area? Give one or some illustration about the most interesting or hottest topic in your area?(淺談老師的研究領域,有沒有有趣/當紅的議題?)
I have always had an interest in how people think, and understanding the psychology of different people and different environments. My Ph.D. was in Organizational Psychology. Very broadly, my research is concerned with how people think, feel and behave at work. Most of my work to date has focused on employee share (stock) ownership schemes and the psychological impact these schemes have (or sometimes don’t have!) on employees’ attitudes and behaviors at work. I am also very interested in psychological ownership – feelings of possession people sometimes experience, and how these experiences impact the feelings and behaviors of employees. My research, since finishing my doctorate, has focused on a number of different concepts, including person-organization fit, person-job fit, affective commitment, employee motivation, brand equity, brand leadership and citizenship behavior. Recently I have been exploring how line-managers think and behave in relation to work-life balance programs and policies, and the effects on employees. I look forward to developing my research profile further at NSYSU over the coming years.
4. Is there any goals you are expecting to achieve in NSYSU?
In addition to writing and publishing research papers and developing my research work at NSYSU, I am also looking forward to meeting students, discussing and debating theory and practice in the classroom and working with local businesses to develop research plans. I really enjoy Thesis supervision, and would like to mentor more students in the future. In the long term, I plan to work hard on my research and achieve promotion at NSYSU. Most importantly, my goal is to enjoy my research, publish more research papers, and work with students to develop their critical thinking skills, subject understanding, and employability.
:: top ::
